About:

Donald Michie was a British computer scientist and artificial intelligence (AI) pioneer. He was born in 1923 in Edinburgh, Scotland, and studied mathematics at Cambridge University. After graduating, he worked as a codebreaker for the British government during World War II, and then went on to become a professor of machine intelligence at the University of Edinburgh.Michie was a key figure in the development of AI, and his work focused on the use of computers to solve problems. He developed the first computer program to play chess, and was the first to apply genetic algorithms to AI. He also worked on robotics, natural language processing, and computer vision. Michie was a founding member of the British Computer Society, and was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1975 for his contributions to computer science. He died in 2007 at the age of 84.
